Maslak Pavilion

Maslak Pavilion, located on the Büyükdere Street within the boundaries of Sarıyer, Istanbul, was built by the order of Sultan Mahmut II. The historical building gained the present appearance as a result of alterations and additions made during the reign of Sultan Abdulaziz. The building was very important for Sultan Abdulhamit II because in this place, he learned the news of after Sultan Murat and he would take the throne of the Ottoman Empire.

“Maslak Pavilion” that witnessed to this historic news consists of “Tent Mansion”, “Humayun Mansion”, “Pashas Department”, “Mabeyn-I Humayun” and “Lemon Garden”. In contrast to the splendor, traditional Ottoman architecture, Maslak Pavilion was built more unassuming. The pavilion was used as a venue for resting and hunting by Sultan Abdulhamit, therefore, the “Monogram of Sultan Abdulhamit” was seen in many parts of the pavilion.

 “Tent Mansion” is the two-story structure decorated with wooden and handmade ornaments. “Humayun Mansion” was used as the working room and bedroom by Sultan Abdulhamit. “Pashas Department”, built in a different way from the main building, based on a single floor. Also, the structure contains a bath. “Mabeyn-I Humayun” described as the last section based on again a single floor and can be characterized as the Sultan’s Harem.

Lemon Garden, where can be reached from only “Mabeyn-I Humayun” has beautiful plants and fruit trees.

Maslak Pavilion can be visited everyday except Monday and Thursday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. for a small fee. It absolutely has a unique view of worth seeing.
